One day, a local gas company was called out to disconnect and cap off the natural gas feeding into a vacant apartment where the stove had been removed. The gas company worker did sloppy work, making several mistakes that were in violation of the applicable building and fire safety codes. As a result, gas fumes leaked out slowly, building up over night.
